Title I
Supporting Student Success at MSD of Mt. Vernon
What is Title I?
Title I is the largest federally funded education program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), originally passed in 1965. Its purpose is to ensure that all children—regardless of background—have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to achieve academic success. Title I funding provides additional instructional support and resources for students who are most at risk of not meeting state academic standards.
How Does Title I Help My School?
Title I provides supplemental funding to schools with high numbers or percentages of students from low-income families. These funds help enhance the academic program by:
- Increasing instructional time for students who need extra support
- Providing additional teaching staff and specialists
- Offering high-quality professional development for educators
- Supporting family engagement initiatives that connect school and home learning
- Purchasing supplemental curriculum, materials, and technology
These efforts help ensure all students have access to a high-quality education that meets their individual needs.
What Types of Services Are Provided?
Title I services are tailored to the specific needs of each school and must be grounded in evidence-based practices. At MSD of Mt. Vernon, Title I supports include:
- Targeted literacy and/or math instruction for struggling learners
- Small-group and individualized learning sessions
- Instructional coaches and interventionists for grades K–3
- Early reading and foundational skill development
These services are provided in addition to the core curriculum to ensure students are on track for academic success.
